Sad Café – Every Day Hurts

Lead singer, Paul Young, was probably the best showman I ever represented.  He went on to front (ex Genesis) Mike Rutherford’s  Mike and the Mechanics with lead vocals on “All I Need Is A Miracle“. Tragically he passed away far too young, at the age of 53, in 2000.

Vic Emerson was the most brilliant and gifted pianist and the rest of the band were an excellent fighting unit who always delivered live.

In 1979, I recruited Eric Stewart (10cc) to weave his production magic on the crucial third album, Façades, (an anagram of Sad Café), and this yielded the smash hit Every Day Hurts which reached No.3 in the U.K.

With my friend Jerry Moss, the ‘M’ of A&M Records, I got them a deal in America, but sadly Sad Café never became a truly international act.
